Youth Rising 2022 Menstrual Hygiene Day Student Essay Challenge!

Time Finished. Entry will not be accepted.

Challenge Question

Today, millions of women and girls* around the world are stigmatized, excluded and discriminated against simply because they menstruate. It’s not acceptable that because of a natural bodily function women and girls continue to be prevented from getting an education, earning an income and fully and equally participating in everyday life.

In not more than 500 words describe how you can help girls in your community to:

  • Break the taboos and end the stigma surrounding menstruation
  • Raise awareness about the challenges regarding access to menstrual products, education about menstruation and period-friendly sanitation facilities.

Developing Your Essay

We recommend that you take your time to develop your submission in Ms. Word before you paste it into the application form. Develop your essay as a one-page, not more than 500 words, Times New Roman, Size 12, single-spaced, and Justified. After you have completed your essay, you will be able to copy it and paste it into the PDF application form that you can download here: for new applicants and registered/returning students.

Here is an example of how your submission should appear in Ms. word.
