Youth Rising 2022 International Day of the Girl Child Essay Challenge

Challenge Question

Today’s more than 1.1 billion girls are poised to take on the future. Every day, girls are breaking boundaries and barriers, tackling issues like child marriage, education inequality, violence, climate justice, and inequitable access to healthcare. Girls are proving they are unstoppable. In not more than 500 words, we want you to choose a girl-child champion/hero in your community and share with us how she/he has broken barriers and built bridges to ensure that girls have a better future.

Developing Your Essay

We recommend that you take your time to develop your submission in Ms. Word before you paste it into the application form. Develop your essay as a one-page, not more than 500 words, Times New Roman, Size 12, single-spaced, and Justified. After you have completed your essay, you will be able to copy it and paste it into the PDF application form that you can download here: for new applicants and registered/returning students.

How to Participate?


Registering & Submitting Your Essay

1. New Entrants

Register & Upload Your Essay

a) Make sure you have a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat installed on the computer you are using. 

b) Download the registration form here which is a fillable PDF form and fill in all your personal details on page 1.

c) Proceed to page 2 and enter your essay in the box provided. Since it is your first time participating in the program, leave the registration field blank, we will send you your registration ID once we receive your application.

d) Once you have filled in all the fields, save your PDF form as your name: eg. JohnKizito, and email it as an attachment with a recent picture of yourself to info@youth-rising.org  


2. Registered/Returning Students

Upload Your Essay

a) If you have participated in the competition before, simply download the form for registered students here and fill in all the details including your registration number. Note that Your application will be rejected if you submit this form without a registration ID. 

b) Once you have filled in all the fields, save your PDF form as your name: eg. JohnKizito and email it as an attachment to info@youth-rising.org.
